The Pala Band of Mission Indians proposes to plan and design a comprehensive model to deliver a 24/7 Mobile Crisis Response Team for the community's adults, youth, and children, emphasizing appropriate and culturally responsive training for first responders, diverting the use of law enforcement. The length of the project will be 48 months and will serve approximately 1,260 tribal members. The program, entitled "Pala Community Crisis Response Partnerships" ("Pala MCRT") will address the current fragmentation in the system of care on the Pala reservation. We will develop a comprehensive mental health service delivery model which draws on the principles, traditions, and values of the Pala tribe. The model will be developed in collaboration with mental health, law enforcement, first responders, GIS, and health care, in consultation with elected tribal leaders. We will bring together these and other agencies through meetings to plan post-crisis follow up and safety protocols to protect staff and the community being served. By the end of the project, 24/7 services will be provided, including peer support roles which will be filled by tribal members so that culturally responsive strategies can be implemented.
