PACER CENTER'S MINNESOTA STATEWIDE FAMILY NETWORK (MSFN) PROJECT - ABSTRACT -PACER’s MSFN will have a significant impact on the state’s mental health systems by increasing families’ capacity to participate in policy development and services planning. PACER will develop parent and youth leaders, inform policymakers about the service gaps experienced by families, and educate the public about the issues faced by children and youth ages birth-26 with mental health challenges. -PACER’s MSFN Goals and Objectives are: Goal 1. Transform Minnesota’s mental health and related systems by increasing leadership capacity of families, youth, and family organizations. Obj. 1.1. Develop new family leaders. Obj. 1.2. Strength youth’s capacity to participate in policy development. Obj. 1.3. Support connections with local family organizations. Goal 2. Improve services for children and youth with serious emotional disturbance by providing information and support to at least 1,500 families and professionals. Obj. 2.1. Increase families’ and professionals’ knowledge through individual assistance. Obj. 2.2. Conduct trainings and presentations. Goal 3: Increase awareness of issues impacting children and youth with serious emotional disturbance by policymakers, state agencies, service providers, and the general public. Obj. 3.1. Participate in collaborative meetings with policy makers and service providers. Obj. 3.2. Develop and disseminate information. Goal 4. Conduct thorough evaluation to ensure project is achieving desired objectives and measure impact of project activities. Obj. 4.1. Collect data and review regularly. Obj. 4.2. Measure outcomes of project activities. -PACER will utilize the following strategies and interventions to achieve the MSFN’s project objectives: Hold family leadership summit; Provide peer mentorship trainings; Develop strong youth board; Create technical assistance resources for family organizations; Provide individual assistance, support, and policy information to families; Conduct workshops for families and professionals; Advocate for improved policies at state legislature; Participate in stakeholder meetings with state education and mental health agencies; Develop new written and video resources for families and professionals; and Disseminate information through electronic and print newsletters. Project activities will reach culturally and racially diverse families and others who are traditionally underserved. -PACER’s MSFN project will serve approximately 1,500 family members and professionals annually and 4,500 total over the lifetime of the project. Thousands more will be reached through information dissemination and outreach. PACER looks forward to continuing its strong history of partnering with policymakers and supporting families to improve the state’s services for children and youth with SED and their families.
