Will County's no-cost mental health program connects residents of all ages to rapid counseling and support through coordinated referrals, expanding access with in-person and telehealth services. - The Joliet Fire Department’s no-cost mental health program serves residents throughout Will County, a service area of more than 700,000 people. The program supports individuals of all ages and has served clients ages 3–84 through counseling, therapy, psychological services, and family support delivered in person or through telehealth. The Fire Department identifies residents experiencing mental health needs and connects them with appropriate community-based providers. Intake may also identify additional social or behavioral health needs, which are addressed through coordinated referrals and support services. The program’s primary objective is to connect individuals with a mental health provider within 48–72 hours of initial contact to promote early intervention and reduce barriers to care. Additional personnel will support the social worker who currently manages all mental health intake and referral coordination, helping the program respond to increased demand, maintain timely referrals and its rapid-response model, and preserve access to mental health services.
