Roberta’s House 2023 Expansion Project: For critical capacity-building; to expand our grief support and mental and behavioral health services for underserved communities. - Roberta’s House has been meeting the need for trauma-informed, culturally responsive grief support for racial minorities and communities of color for over 15 years. We provide in-home, community-based, and school-based support and serve varied groups of bereaved individuals: survivors of homicide victims; mothers who have experienced a perinatal death, and at-risk teens. Roberta’s House 2023 Expansion Project increases access to mental health and grief support services to communities of color in Maryland that are affected by premature deaths, gun violence, and traumatic losses. The Expansion Project will serve Greater Baltimore and Prince George’s County area residents. Roberta’s House outreaches to low-income, under-served communities and Title I schools that qualify for Federal Free or Reduced-Price Lunch Program in these areas. The catchment area for clients will likely be within 15 miles of Roberta’s House’s Family Grief Support Centers. The Expansion Project includes two areas of focus: expansion of grief support services and mental health services and building the capacity of communities at large, particularly health care professionals, to attend to grief, loss, and trauma. Roberta’s House will increase mental health services. In Prince George's County, Roberta’s House will establish the same core programs and serves as in Baltimore. Roberta’s House will leverage its expertise to train caring professionals and become a nexus for education on loss, trauma, and grief in urban communities. The Expansion Project aims to increase Roberta’s House’s capacity to provide grief-supportive services, both peer-based and clinical, [especially] in minority and underserved communities. The Project will also develop a pipeline for mental and behavioral health professional training, thereby growing the community of healthcare professionals competent in grief, loss, and recovery support.
