LGBT Safe Spaces Project supports LGBT middle and high school youth in substance use prevention through enhancing our anti-our anti-bullying and safe space programs - The Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth, Inc. (LIGALY) DBA LGBT Network, proposes its LGBT Safe Spaces Project. This anti-bullying, safe space, and substance use prevention program will focus on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) middle and high school youth. Through the LGBT Safe Spaces Project, LGBT Network will (1) train 2,500 Long Island students and school personnel through our anti-bullying/LGBT 101 training, (2) adapt our anti-bullying/LGBT 101 training curriculum for middle, intermediate, and junior high schools, (3) assist 10 Long Island high schools create new Gay Straight Alliance/Gender Sexuality Alliance Clubs, (4) assist 15 Long Island high schools restart their Gay Straight Alliance/Gender Sexuality Alliance Clubs, (5) assist 10 Long Island middle schools create new Gay Straight Alliance/Gender Sexuality Alliance Clubs, (6) develop three Youth Empowerment Advisory Teams across Long Island (East End, Central Suffolk, Nassau) 5-8 youth on each team, (7) facilitate twelve YEAT meetings, (8) host five Gay Straight Alliance/Gender Sexuality Alliance Club mixers throughout Long Island, (9) host the 28th annual LGBT Youth Conference for the Long Island region for 500 LGBT and Allied youth, (10) engage 100 Long Island schools to conduct our annual National Coming Out Day Campaign, and (11) develop and distribute 1,000 surveys to LGBT youth across Long Island with expectations of receiving a 35% response rate.
