The Gila River Indian Community, GRIC, is a federally recognized tribe and the population of the focus for this Emergency Response Suicide Prevention, ERSP, project application. The purpose of this project is to enhance the collaborative response to the prevention, intervention, treatment, postvention needs for suicide behaviors occurring in the Gila River Indian Community. The GRIC is located on 372,000 acres of land south of the Phoenix Metropolitan area in both Pinal and Maricopa Counties. The tribal membership includes both the Akimel Oodham, Pima and Pee Posh, Maricopa people. The Gila River Indian News published an article in 2012 and estimated the GRIC population as 20,717.Of the population, it is estimated 8,580 or 41.4 percent do not reside within the boundaries of the community. Arizona Department Health Services reported in the 2017 Primary Care Area Statistical Profile an estimated the population to be 13,438 residing in GRIC. This will be achieved by 1. Creating a strategic system of collaboration between community departments to increase awareness, identify individuals at-risk of suicide, refer to treatment and established a postvention system, with respect to the cultural and religious beliefs and practices for GRIC; 2. Supplementing the current community-based suicide prevention efforts for adults ages 25 and older, within the community with a strategic plan to advance prevention, intervention, treatment and postvention efforts, with a focus of developing a system to focus on individuals and or families who encounter domestic violence; 3. Improving intervention and treatment efforts by enhancing for adults 25 and over who receive services at Gila River Health Care, via face to face, telephone, and as appropriate through other audio-visual provisions; 4. Enhanced the outreach capabilities through social media marketing to engage the target populations. A coalition of partners will consist of approximately twenty members, including Gila River Health Care, GRIC Department of Rehabilitation and Supervision, GRIC Tribal Social Services, GRIC Police Department, GRIC Tribal Health Department, schools and other community representatives will form a sub-committee to provide feedback GRHC COVID-19 ERSP project.
