Operation Reach-out: Supporting Adults in Crisis - Operation Reach-out, the proposed Emergency Response for Suicide Prevention Program (ERSPP), will be added to Uplift Family Services' continuum of care that is currently in existence for resident of San Bernardino, Colton, and Loma Linda, which are neighboring cities within San Bernardino County, the southeastern region of California. The purpose of this program is to support the San Bernardino community during the COVID-19 pandemic in efforts to prevent suicide, suicide attempts, and support victims of domestic violence and their dependents. The target population are adults who are not covered by an individual's health plan. The stressors related to COVID-19 (e.g., economic disruption, isolation, etc.) exacerbated pre-existing living and mental health conditions or result in conditions that did not exist prior to COVID-19. The demographics of the target population suggest high-risk for suicide and domestic violence. Uplift Family Services will partner with emergency departments and inpatient psychiatric facilities in the catchment area to develop and implement a plan for rapid follow-up of adults who have attempted suicide or experienced suicidal crisis after discharge from emergency departments. Second, we ensure patient safety with the target population by establishing follow-up and care transition protocol. Third, in partnership with the Pacific Clinics Training Institute, we will provide suicide prevention trainings to community and clinical services providers serving adults. While the focus of this grant is for San Bernardino, considering COVID-19, trainings may be virtual and accessible beyond San Bernardino to have an even farther reach. Fourth, Uplift Family Services will work across state, county, and community departments to compliment the catchment area's current suicide prevention infrastructure that will result in more comprehensive suicide prevention services. Fifth, the program will provide suicide and domestic violence screening, assessment, appropriate evidence-based treatments, recovery support group services. All services will be available face-to-face, telehealth, and/or telephonic.
