Males make up 80% of the total population living with HIV in Texas, in Bexar County and in San Antonio, males make up 85% of those diagnosed with HIV. Of the individuals living with an HIV diagnosis more than 50% are individuals 45 years and older, across Texas, Bexar County, and San Antonio. The CDC has identified San Antonio (Bexar County) as a “hot spot” for HIV transmission due to the high rate of HIV transmission clusters. For the past 32 years, CentroMed has provided services to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Bexar County. Key Services CentroMed is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit FQHC founded in 1973. CentroMed has served People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) for the past 32 years in Bexar County. In 2023, CentroMed served 1,356 patients with an HIV diagnosis in approximately 3,536 unique visits. CentroMed’s Annual Ryan White HIV/AID Program Services Report (RSR Report) shows that CentroMed served 849 Ryan White patients in 2023. Among the patients served, 189 (22.2%) were among ages 14 -33, 283 (33.3%) were among ages 34 -43, 150 (17.7%) were among ages 44 -53, 181 (21.3%) were ages 54 -63 and 46 (5.4%) were ages 64 and up. The vast majority of CentroMed’s HIV patients are of Hispanic descent 74%, while 26% are non-Hispanic. Moreover, 747 (88%) were male, 84 (9.9%) were female, 3 (0.4%) were transgender male to female, and 10 (1.2%) were female to male. Considering poverty levels, about 73% of patients served had incomes below 200%. About 12% had a temporary or unstable housing status. Key services to be supported by this request include: (1) counseling for individuals with respect to HIV; (2) targeted HIV testing; (3) periodic medical evaluations of individuals with HIV and clinical diagnostic services for HIV care and treatment; (4) therapeutic measures for preventing and treating the deterioration of the immune system, and for preventing and treating conditions arising from HIV; and (5) referrals for people living with HIV to appropriate providers of health care and support services. Target Population(s) The target population consists of those who are HIV-positive, aged 18 years or older, and reside in Bexar County. CentroMed’s focused ethnic subpopulation minority group targeted to receive Ryan White Part C funded services will include young (18-24 years) Latino gay and MSM populations, as well as Latino men and women. CentroMed is the only Part C provider in Bexar County (service area) to this vulnerable population. Through this application, CentroMed requests $568,539 under Ryan White Part C Early Intervention Services: Existing Geographical Service Areas for the performance period of May 1, 2025 - April 30, 2028.
