This Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center (APDIC) application is submitted in response to the HRSA-funded Poison Control Centers Program NOFO HRSA-24-045. Outlined is the plan to satisfy the program objectives by meeting each of the listed requirements and expectations to achieve the overall goal of reducing poisonings and the harms resulting from poisonings. Prevent, and provide treatment recommendations for poisonings APDIC is staffed by Specialists in Information, Toxicologists, and Toxicology fellows to provide treatment recommendations 24/7/365. This grant will allow for the staffing to remain at this appropriate level to provide this coverage. APDIC is also staffed by two Community Outreach Coordinators to provide poison prevention education to our service area. These coordinators will continue to work with local health departments and organizations to host events such as the 60+ that were hosted in 2023. Comply with the operational requirements needed to sustain the accreditation of the center APDIC received its accreditation in 2017 and is up for re-accreditation in 2024. All components of the accreditation standards have been reviewed and addressed to ensure compliance has remained since last review. This includes appropriate staffing and certifications, reports on call metrics, access to clinical resources, etc. No changes in operational standards have changed since last accreditation approval. Provide high-quality, locally informed guidance and treatment recommendations when poisonings occur APDIC will meet this expectation through continuing its internal educational program which includes journal clubs, toxicologist-led lecture series, and research. In addition, we will also continue our partnerships with each of our 14 county health departments to surveil for emerging trends and threats to public safety and respond collaboratively. Ensure that human exposure poisoning cases receive a completed follow-up contact, when indi cated Our electronic medical record, ToxSentry, allows for scheduling of follow-ups and alerts to all staff when a follow-up is due and overdue. Monthly QI review of cases also check for appropriate coding and clinical management of cases Develop and follow procedures to collect high-quality data related to all calls ToxSentry, in compliance with NPDS standards, has mandatory coding fields and rules to ensure high-quality data is collected on all calls. In addition, there is a “Rule Based Coding” module that mandates additional information be collected and entered before a case is allowed to be closed. This information can be entered as free text or choice selection. This module can be implemented on any case or triggered by certain variables of interest (substance, age, call type, etc.). Enter these data in NPDS for toxic exposure surveillance purposes Each case entered into ToxSentry is automatically uploaded to NPDS roughly every 5 minutes. There is also a report and error generated if the autoupload feature fails or if a case is rejected by NPDS
