Activating the historical AI/AN resiliency to heal and protect the AI/AN communities in Ibapah, Goshute and Salt Lake County areas from the devastating impacts of opioid misuse. - Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) is a serious threat to our American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Families both locally and nationally. Unfortunately, Utah Natives rank in the top10 states for opioid misuse in the Nation. In this application for funding the need and beginning of a solution is detailed. We are excited to have the opportunity to apply for this much needed funding. Sacred Circle Healthcare (SCHC) is a comprehensive healthcare entity owned by the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation (CTGR). We are seeking funding to expand our strategic plan and create a specific opioid prevention program called the Gawee Opioid Prevention Program. Gawee is pronounced Gaa-wee which is Shoshoni for “build up” or “come together” (the Goshute people speak a Shoshoni dialect), the OPP acronym will be used for the purpose of this application, however, on all media and marketing materials it will be spelled out Opioid Prevention Program. In reading this application the reader will understand how how Gawee OPP will come “from the people” to “serve the people” in addressing culturally relevant opioid prevention and treatment programming.
