Lummi Nation is seeking to update all of its prevention treatment and after care plans policies and procedures. Part of the reason is to include new services that have been developed. Peer Counselors and Advocate trained and certified through the State of Washington to bill for their Prevention, Treatment support and After Care services through the State Medicaid Plan. Also through the Medicaid Plan Washington State is supporting the provision of supported employment and housing as medically necessary services and therefore eligible for Medicaid reimbursement. Lummi Nation also has funding now to construct an 18 bed 24/7 Detoxification Program Facility. The other and more significant reason is that the process of developing services for Lummi Nation's addicted population provides community agreement about what services are needed to make measurable progress in reducing the number of persons and families tied to this scourge. By filling in service gaps Lummi can create and maintain positive progress - reduce the number of people who are circling around sobriety and increase the number who are actually sober.
