The purpose of this project is to reduce OUDs and opioid-related deaths among AIs in OK by increasing access to culturally appropriate prevention, treatment, and recovery services. OKCIC will leverage its existing personnel and clinic resources to expand its capacity for providing opioid use education and treatment to patients and their families through the development of comprehensive support teams. By executing the activities described in this section, we will support the COIPP’s objectives and address the opioid crisis in AI populations by expanding communication, education, and awareness about opioid misuse and providing pharmacist-led MAT. This project has three primary goals, each of which will use culturally appropriate approaches: 1. Promote public awareness and education regarding OUD prevention, treatment, and recovery services among AIs in central Oklahoma; 2. Create and strengthen existing comprehensive support teams that will strengthen and empower AI families in addressing the opioid crisis; 3. Increase OKCIC’s capacity to reduce unmet needs through comprehensive support teams and MAT. Founded in 1974, OKCIC is the nation's largest urban Indian health clinic, with more than 20,000 active patients and more than 250 employees. The Clinic has the staff, expertise and capacity to develop, launch, manage, measure and report the impact of this project.
