Osage Nation’s COIPP will focus on community awareness, reducing stigma, and creating a supportive and sober environment. These areas of needed improvement have been found through work with the Osage Nation’s existing MAT program, funded through two SAMHSA grants. The project will form a drug free youth council, form an Elder/Youth mentoring program, engage the 5 man boards of the Osage villages, run a comprehensive information campaign consisting of print ads and billboards, provide Narcan education and distribution, and train both counselors and community in the Wellbriety model of treatment. The project will provide safe, sober alternative activities such as cultural crafting, hand games, and an Opioid Awareness Powwow. These activities will serve to engage the community and families in activities which do not involve substances. The project will collect data through surveys to judge the opinion of MAT and stigma surrounding Opioid addiction, pre/post-tests regarding Narcan, and demographics for participants.
