The population of focus for this project will be any AI/AN residing within the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s 10 ½ counties. The purpose of the proposed project is to reduce community misunderstanding and stigma on Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and expand both program capacity to serve and access to MAT Services that include Choctaw values, culture, and treatments. We plan to increase public awareness and education about culturally appropriate and family-centered opioid prevention, treatment, and recovery practices and programs in The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s Service Area. The nation plans to create comprehensive support teams and empower AI/AN families to address the opioid crisis in The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s Service Area. The nation will also expand program capacity and MAT access by providing MAT to at least 10 patients through various expansion and training activities and developing a Choctaw specific cultural treatment plan. To reduce MAT stigma and OUD Misunderstanding CNO plans to increase public awareness and education about culturally appropriate and family-centered opioid prevention, treatment, and recovery practices and programs in The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma’s Service Area. This will be accomplished through the hiring of a Prevention Specialist who will comprehensively work to mitigate social stigma surrounding MAT, and engage with the community through awareness campaigns, educational materials and community events and more. The nation will create comprehensive support teams and empower AI/AN families in addressing the opioid crisis, reduce unmet treatment needs and opioid overdose related deaths through the provision of medication-assisted treatment to 10 patients, and develop a Choctaw specific cultural treatment plan. We plan to hire a case manager to follow MAT patients’ post-treatment life and to help with housing needs, supports needs, and more. Currently, Choctaw Nation Behavio ral Health treatment plans and recovery centers are lacking in post-treatment care. The project also seeks to research general community opinions on substance abuse, MAT, and OUD and OUD recovery. This will be accomplished through the provision of at least 3 focus groups in the span of 6 months across the CNO Service Area. The project will work to increase access to continuing education on MAT and develop a family focused and culturally based assessment that captures biopsychosocial needs of AI/ANs and link assessment needs to support and recovery services. The project seeks to deliver MAT training to providers throughout the TSA and ensure they have the proper waivers completed in order to implement the provision of MAT in at least 2 more clinics in Durant and McAlester to alleviate the burden of care placed on The CNO Recovery Center and Chi Hullo Li (the current CNO women's recovery center). We will increase the awareness and distribution of naloxone as an overdose intervention and increase the availability and utilization of MAT to include Buprenorphine; buprenorphine/naloxone combination product, and/or naltrexone to the recovery clinics in Talihina, Durant, and McAlester. Further, the Choctaw Nation is seeking to extensively implement Choctaw values, culture, and treatments into the way we care for those struggling with OUD. Once we have studied various pieces of evidence, we can begin writing a curriculum that merges our areas of study that can be successfully implemented across the 10 ½ counties.
