The Kiowa Tribe SDPI program will focus on four areas throughout the year. They are as follows:
1. Physical Activity Education- Every month for one year, implementation of a walking group, native social dancing/ drumming/singing and other activities like
volleyball, basketball will be ongoing throughout the year.
2. Nutrition Education- A cooking demonstration 8 times a year providing healthy foods/recipes while working with our tribal food distribution program. Many
tribal members are on a low income and receive USDA commodities. Therefore, the CHR provides great healthy recipes from a nutritionist who
demonstrates how to use food to the best nutritional value. A cookbook is also provided.
3. Youth Prevention- Spring semester from February to May, working with youth and schools in providing speakers and activities/games. The goal
is to encourage physical activity as well as decreasing electronic media.
4. Community Health Events- Four events for health fairs, running/walking groups ranging from elders to youth who participates on a regular basis.
The Kiowa CHR has developed a community report to host events that are well organize and beneficial to the attendees who participate.
