The Walker River Paiute Tribe will continue to provide a range of diabetes prevention and treatment services for our tribal community through the SDPI program. At the Fitness Center we provide multiple prevention programs for Type II Diabetes to benefit those at risk, their families, and tribal community members. Staff provide exercise activities in multiple settings which include low impact Aerobics, Yoga, Zumba, Spin Classes, Senior Citizen Golden Age Workout, and one-on-one personal training. The SDPI program also offers multiple events, challenges, nutrition courses, and fun runs/walks throughout the year. The SDPI Program and Fitness Center staff work with the public school on the Walker River Paiute Reservation to teach our youth about the importance of physical activity and eating healthy foods.
The SDPI program and Fitness Center staff will work with our Walker River Paiute Tribal Health Clinic staff to provide foot and eye exams, preventative screening, laboratory testing, and to administer a shoe program that allows members in our rural area to order shoes online to assist with staying physically fit. The SDPI program will offer Talking Circles, and Lunch and Learn sessions. The program has launched multiple success stories and results for more than 17 years due to our partnership with the patient's healthcare staff.
