Special Diabetes Project for Indians: The Jena Band of Choctaw Indians Diabetes Program - The Jena Band pf Choctaw Indians SDPI 2023 grant funds will be utilized to provide diabetes education, prevention and management opportunities for tribal members within the 3-parish service area (Grant, Rapides and Lasalle). The entire program will focus on the prevention and management of diabetes through lifestyle change. Various activities planned will include health management, mental health, physical activity and cultural health all while following IHS Diabetes Best Practices. Education activities are planned for tribal members in various formats to reach everyone---in person, digital and print. The Jena Band of Choctaw Indians Health Department has received grant funds from the Special Diabetes Program for Indians since 1998. Being in such a rural area, diabetes prevention and treatment is a struggle for tribal members to maintain. JBCI’s longstanding SDPI program has assisted in positive lifestyle changes and diabetes prevention. SDPI 2023 funding will be utilized to further this change and diabetes prevention.
