AltaMed is applying for HRSA-22-037 Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part D Coordinated HIV Services and Access to Research for Women, Infants, Children, and Youth (WICY) in the amount of $174,058 for Fiscal Year 2022 to continue serving the Orange County, California service area. AltaMed is applying to continue its Ryan White Part D program located in Anaheim, California providing family-centered health care services to over 50 low income WICY with HIV yearly in an outpatient care setting. Orange County is one of the California eight Phase I jurisdictions identified in the Ending the HIV Epidemic plan. At the end of 2020, there were 6,548 persons living with HIV and 265 newly diagnosed WICY in Orange County. AltaMed’s medical and prevention HIV programs support the Ending the HIV Epidemic: Plan for America and its four pillars: Diagnose, Treat, Prevent and Respond with quality improvement goals to increase viral suppression to 95% and retention in care to 90% by 2030. The project is also aligned with the National HIV Strategy’s goals: (1) Reduce new HIV Infections; (2) Increase access to care and improve health outcomes for people living with HIV; (3) Reduce HIV related disparities and health inequities; and (4) Achieve a more coordinated national response. AltaMed has been a Ryan White Part D program offering comprehensive, coordinated, family-centered HIV primary medical services for low income mostly Latinx WICY in Orange County since 2013. AltaMed’s HIV Specialty Services Clinic located in Anaheim, California serves as one of three HIV RWHAP in the entire service area and provides a team-based approach to care. AltaMed’s Anaheim HIV Specialty Services clinic offers co-located services for dental services, behavioral health, nutrition/dietary support, and urgent care services in one building. AltaMed’s experience as an HIV medical services provider spans almost 30 years, maturing to become the Ryan White HIV/AIDS provider-of-choice among Lat
inx communities in Southern California (Parts C – LA County, D – Orange County, and A – LA County [subcontracted]). AltaMed began providing HIV outpatient early intervention services through a demonstration grant from the Bureau of Primary Health Care in 1989 and has emerged as a regionally-prominent HIV care provider offering a full spectrum of bilingual and culturally-competent prevention and treatment services to 2,000 patients each year in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. AltaMed operates four HIV medical outpatient clinics in Anaheim, East Los Angeles/ Commerce, Pico Rivera, and El Monte and has an additional prevention services site in East Los Angeles.
