Enhancing Direct Patient Dental Care Through the Replacement and Acquisition of Essential Clinical Equipment - The Samuels Sinclair Dental Center at Rhode Island Hospital seeks funding to replace aging clinical equipment and acquire essential new technology to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and accessibility of direct patient dental care. As one of Rhode Island's primary providers of oral healthcare for children, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and medically complex patients, the Dental Center delivers nearly 20,000 patient visits annually and serves as a critical safety-net resource for vulnerable populations. The Center provides comprehensive preventive, restorative, specialty, and emergency dental services, including care for hospitalized patients and those preparing to undergo cardiothoracic surgery, organ transplantation, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and other medically intensive treatments. Timely dental evaluation and treatment are often essential to reducing infection risk, preventing delays in medical care, and improving overall treatment outcomes. Much of the Dental Center's current equipment has exceeded its expected service life, increasing the risk of mechanical failures, workflow disruptions, and reduced clinical efficiency. Grant funding will support the purchase and installation of essential clinical equipment, including sterilization technology, radiographic equipment, dental handpieces, patient management software, and other patient-care devices necessary for daily operations. The proposed project will enhance infection prevention and control, improve diagnostic accuracy, increase provider efficiency, reduce equipment-related safety risks, and strengthen the Center's ability to meet growing patient demand. Modern equipment will enable clinicians to provide more timely, effective, and patient-centered care while minimizing treatment delays and improving access to services for medically vulnerable populations. By investing in critical clinical infrastructure, this project will help ensure that children, individuals with special healthcare needs, hospitalized patients, and medically complex adults continue to receive high-quality oral healthcare in a safe, modern, and efficient clinical environment. The project aligns with Rhode Island Hospital's mission to improve health outcomes, reduce barriers to care, and provide compassionate, coordinated healthcare to those who need it most.
