Equipment Investment to Enhance Care and Early Interventions for High-Risk Local Rural Population - Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Inc (GH), operated by Clarke County Healthcare Authority, is a nonprofit community hospital which is owned by the Town of Grove Hill, Alabama. Grove Hill Clinics (GHC) is a program of Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Inc which provides primary care services through two primary care locations in Grove Hill, the Clarke County seat. Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Inc has served Clarke County since its founding in 1949, and has continued to grow in the last 80 years to become a licensed Rural Emergency Hospital offering a full continuum of medical services, including a 24/7 emergency department, outpatient specialty services, and comprehensive primary care through two health clinic sites (Grove Hill Primary Care and Grove Hill Healthcare) serving a predominantly rural service area. Grove Hill Health Care began offering primary care services in 1994 at the present location, and Grove Hill Primary Care has provided primary care services since 1998. GH’s primary service area includes approximately 17,992 residents, all of whom live in areas designated as rural by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy. Nearly 43.76% of residents are low-income, 8.6% of adults are uninsured, and 23.5% rely on Medicaid. These conditions reduce the community’s ability to absorb the cost and time burden associated with out of area diagnostic care. Local access barriers make the need more urgent. Between 10% and 15% of residents do not have access to a personal vehicle, and 29.7% of households lack broadband access, limiting both transportation-based referrals and virtual care alternatives. In this setting, delayed imaging often means delayed diagnosis. The service area already ranks in the 90th percentile for preventable hospitalizations, suggesting that too many chronic and acute conditions are not being identified early enough or growing unmanaged until they become more serious. The community’s disease burden further supports the need for local diagnostic capacity. Adult obesity effects 40.46%, diabetes effects 18.9%, high blood pressure effects 48.7% of adults, and 19.9% of adults report one or more disabilities. These conditions increase the need for timely CT imaging to evaluate stroke symptoms, trauma, abdominal pain, respiratory complications, cardiac related concerns, and other urgent conditions. A modern mammography unit is equally critical to support early breast cancer detection for rural women who may otherwise delay or forego screening. Investment in this equipment will strengthen GH’s local healthcare infrastructure, preserving central diagnostic services close to home and improving the hospital’s ability to respond to the health needs of a high-risk rural population. Replacing capital equipment at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital is essential to the hospital’s ability to diagnose disease and serious medical conditions early, which further contributes to early interventions, resulting in better treatment outcomes and improved health for rural Alabama patients facing delays in diagnostic Care.
