The Youth Mental Health Commission in conjunction with the leadership of the Orange County Mental Health and Homeless Division seeks to improve outcomes for young children and their families by advancing Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), which is an evidence-based, short-term treatment for young children ages two to seven (2-7) with emotional and behavioral disorders and their caregivers within our community. The model supports positive changes through empowering parents to address their child’s challenges through the power of parent-child relationships and parent-child interaction patterns. PCIT has documented success addressing a wide variety of emotional and behavioral challenges, including; physical and verbal aggression, destruction of property, noncompliance/defiance, hyperactivity/inattention, emotional dysregulation and difficulties with attachment. www.pcit-training.com. Funding will be utilized to train and credential, twenty-eight Master's level clinicians in PCIT. Trainees will be required to attend forty hours of in-person training, participate in two consultation calls with a Global PCIT Trainer per month, submit session reviews in the form of live video or trainer observation of live sessions and maintain a caseload of five PCIT cases weekly.
