Nurse Faculty Loan Program - This application is in response to the Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP) NOF HRSA-24-015 of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Nursing. The purpose of this NFLP application is to increase the number of qualified nursing faculty. We will focus on recruitment and retention of students in the Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (NHWSN) doctoral programs, especially the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), who are committed to teaching nursing. We will use current and future funds to provide support to students in our doctoral students who have an interest in serving as future nurse faculty. Our overall goal is to increase the number of nursing faculty teaching in schools of nursing. Specifically, we propose to use the NFLP funds to achieve the following objectives: 1) recruit and retain 60 qualified doctoral students committed to teaching nursing, 2) prepare 60 students as nursing faculty and serve as preceptors, and 3) graduate about 20 doctorally prepared nurses seeking nursing faculty/joint faculty positions in each class. Our objectives for the proposed project will be accomplished via a collaborative effort by the Emory University NHWSN NFLP Project Director and faculty/staff for DNP and PhD Programs; NHWSN Student Services administrators/staff; and Emory University Financial Aid Offices administrators/staff.
