The California Rural Indian Health Board, Inc. (CRIHB) will continue to build upon activities implemented in a previously executed five-year Tribal Injury Prevention Cooperative Agreement Program (TIPCAP) initiative, wherein staff from Tribes, Tribal Health Programs (THPs), and Tribal Head Start programs were trained in Child Passenger Safety (CPS). The proposed program will continue to provide expert CPS education and activities to select Tribal communities, with the overall goal of decreasing unintentional injury deaths due to being unrestrained/improperly restrained in a car seat during motor vehicle crashes by increasing the number of children who are properly restrained in car seats in the four THP service areas. The proposed long-term goal is that by November 30, 2025, there will be a 10 percent increase from baseline of children age 0 to 8 years old (or 4 feet 9 inches in height), who are properly restrained in car seats in the service areas of Sonoma County Indian Health Project, Inc. (SCIHP); Toiyabe Indian Health Project, Inc. (TIHP); Tule River Indian Health Center, Inc. (TRIHC); and United Indian Health Services, Inc. (UIHS).
