VIDA (Virus Integration Distribution of Aid): A Community Health Worker COVID-19 Outreach and Education Project to improve Health Literacy in Monterey County, California - Latinx in Monterey County, California, have experienced disproportionate impacts of COVID-19 with four times the case rate as Whites, in part due to the community?s role as essential agriculture workers and also likely due to numerous health access and literacy issues. Community Health Workers (CHWs) are playing an increasingly important role in the delivery of high quality and equitable health related services, particularly to COVID-19 disparately impacted communities. This proposal seeks to capitalize on a newly developed COVID-19 CHW Outreach and Education project, Virus Integrated Distribution of Aid (VIDA), in Monterey County which is a community-focused partnership to reduce the disproportionate impacts of COVID-19 across the county. Monterey County Health Department will work collaboratively with the Community Foundation for Monterey County to engage 18 VIDA CHWs and three VIDA CHW support staff. The CHWs will be involved in collecting community input and guide the development of a county-wide Health Literacy Plan. They will also reach at least 2,000 people/month with associated COVID-19 community outreach, education, testing access information, and vaccination registration and supports, and provide systems navigation to community members needing support for successful isolation and quarantine. They will also conduct up to four trainings for area providers on healthcare access challenges and problem solve with them to improve equitable health care access for COVID-19 as part of Plan implementation.
