Community Engagement and Capacity Building to Advance Health Literacy in Oklahoma City leverages partnerships with Langston University, a minority serving institution, and the University of Oklahoma, as well as numerous other community partners to address health literacy among Black/African-American, Native American/American-Indian, Latinx, Asian, Older Adult populations,and persons with physical and mental disabilities. This grant seeks to work with providers and the public to increase the importance of health literacy in achieving health equity and minimizing barriers and inequalities that are impacted by social disparities of health. The Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services standards will guide work using Community Health Workers, educational programming for providers and community members, and promoting policy changes among non-profit agencies to create greater health literacy for vulnerable populations around COVID-19 and health care practices that will be generalizable to other health situations. Such generalizability makes the work from this grant sustainable beyond just the current COVID-19 pandemic. Data collection will demonstrate efficacy of interventions during and after the grant period.
