The Asian American Center of Frederick (AACF) proposes to demonstrate whether claiming and receiving the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) enhances familial protective factors against Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Our project uses a defined intervention of one or more visits with a Community Health Worker to increase knowledge and understanding of EITC and how to claim the tax credits, as well as of ACEs and how to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors. Our goals are 1) To increase public awareness within the immigrant/minority population in two counties in Maryland about the family benefits of the EITC and its relationship to increasing protective factors in families; 2) To increase receipt of earned income tax credits by immigrant/minority, Limited English Proficient and female-headed households through interventions by Community Health Workers; 3) To strengthen core adaptive skills and lower ACEs risk factors of immigrant/minority, Limited English Proficient, and female-headed households through participation in the EITC program and through outreach and education provided by CHWs.
