Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Renovation and Expansion - This project includes the comprehensive renovation and reconfiguration of an existing neonatal care unit, along with targeted modifications to adjacent pediatric space to expand neonatal capacity and improve pediatric critical care support. The project aligns with CPF/CDS funding objectives by modernizing an existing healthcare facility, expanding neonatal and pediatric care environments, upgrading critical building systems, and enhancing infection control, patient safety, and operational efficiency. The existing 5,422 SF neonatal unit (SLB-3) will be fully renovated to create a modernized, integrated care environment supporting a continuum of neonatal services. The redesigned unit will include ten (10) NICU beds, five (5) intermediate care beds, two (2) continuing care overflow beds, and a single-bed airborne infection isolation (A.I.I.) room with an adjacent parent room and three-piece bathroom. The new layout improves workflow, staff visibility, and separation of clean and soiled functions, consistent with evidence-based neonatal care practices. The existing six (6) bed neonatal unit on SLB-1 will be integrated into the overall program, supporting a total of twenty-four (24) neonatal beds. The project also includes the removal of six (6) beds from the pediatric unit and reconfiguration of approximately 1,321 SF. Approximately 1,033 SF will be repurposed to support neonatal expansion, while the remaining area will be reallocated to adjacent clinical and support functions. One (1) pediatric isolation bed will be reconstructed adjacent to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to preserve isolation capacity, enhance clinical adjacency, improve infection control, and reduce patient transport. Neonatal unit support spaces will be upgraded to improve clinical efficiency and patient care, including a central nurse station, documentation areas, medication preparation space, satellite formula stations, and distributed handwashing sinks. The project also includes extensive infrastructure upgrades: interior demolition and reconfiguration, new millwork and finishes, plumbing improvements (including new sinks and a dedicated A.I.I. bathroom), roof and façade repair, HVAC reconfiguration with pressure control and environmental regulation, electrical upgrades with new power and data systems, and installation of fixed medical equipment such as medical gas outlets and integrated clinical stations. Additional renovations within the main building will enhance staff support and operations, including a NICU lounge, conference room, office, equipment storage, and ADA-compliant staff toilet facilities. Collectively, these improvements modernize neonatal and pediatric care delivery, expand capacity, strengthen infection control, and optimize clinical operations within an existing healthcare facility to meet current and future demand.
