Congressionally Directed Spending for Construction Projects - For 40 years, Legacy Community Health has provided health care services to Southeast Texas in a culturally sensitive and judgment-free environment. We currently provide adult primary care, pediatrics, dental care, vision services, behavioral health services, OB/GYN and maternity, vaccinations and immunizations, health promotion and community outreach, wellness, and nutrition services for Texans who have traditionally faced barriers to care. Legacy is the largest Federally Qualified Heath Center in the state of Texas, meaning we provide comprehensive medical care to anyone who walks through our doors, regardless of their ability to pay. We have 56 clinics across Houston, Beaumont, Deer Park, and Baytown, and we operate school-based clinics on KIPP, Yes Prep, and Galena Park ISD campuses so children can see a medical or behavioral health provider without having to leave school grounds. Legacy has partnered with KIPP, YES Prep, and Galena Park ISD to provide affordable health care services to all students at selected schools, and we need philanthropic support to ensure these children can continue to access the care they need. We currently provide pediatrics, general primary care, sports physicals, behavioral health, and immunization services to all children, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Research indicates that school-based health programs increase access to care, promote early intervention and prevention of disease, and increase academic success. Our highly trained, responsive medical professionals offer these services during school hours and on school grounds so students can stay on campus the entire school day. In many instances, parents may not even need to be present for their child to receive the care they need to stay healthy and in the classroom. These services are especially convenient for parents who face transportation barriers since the location and hours of operation eliminates the need for families to obtain additional means of transportation for their children’s health care appointments. Funding from this grant will support Legacy’s School Based Health initiatives and increase access to quality care for low-income students throughout the greater Houston area.
