Congressionally Directed Spending for Construction Projects - AltaMed Health Services Corporation is a 501(c)(3) Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), founded as a single storefront called the East Los Angeles Barrio Free Clinic in 1969 that has grown to become the largest FQHC in California. AltaMed’s regional health network offers a medical home with a full range of primary care, enabling and social service programs to low-income underserved communities, benefitting over 243,000 predominantly Latino children, youths, adults and seniors, 9% of whom are uninsured. AltaMed employs over 4,000 dynamic professionals and para-professionals who are linguistically and culturally familiar with the population we serve – in many cases they live in the same communities where they serve. With 40 primary care, support service, and PACE sites serving Los Angeles and Orange Counties, AltaMed’s programs educate and empower the community by optimizing health status (primary and PACE senior care), improving economic status (workforce development), enhancing the individual’s well-being (obesity prevention, diabetes management), and fostering initiatives that support civic engagement (voter registration, advocacy engagement). Established in 1996 AltaMed’s PACE program offers an array of programs for frail elderly and disabled seniors. As one of the largest programs in California, we serve over 4,000 participants, and operate 10 PACE centers in Los Angeles County. PACE employs over 2,000 individuals to provide clinical, social, nutrition, wellness, interpretation and transportation services to our participants. While PACE strives to bring as many specialties in-house to reduce burden and care delays for our patients, we often have to refer to vendors for imaging and interpretation services for specialties like cardiology and pulmonology. AltaMed respectfully requests $255,000 to purchase one (1) echocardiography machine and four (4) spirometry devices to bring cardiac and lung assessments in-house, thereby reducing logistical and clinical delays in care for our critically ill senior participants. The equipment will be located at AltaMed PACE Grand Plaza located in Los Angeles and within California’s 34th congressional district.
