The total project cost will be $7,032,980. HRSA funds will go towards the construction/renovation costs and Broward Health will be covering the remaining $4,032,980 from cash on hand in the capital projects budget. The Pompano Care Center serves a low-income population and is located in a federally designated shortage area for primary care (HPSA) and serves a medically underserved population (MUA). Within Pompano Care Center’s service area (zip code 33060) 18.7% of families live in poverty (https://www.city-data.com/poverty/poverty-Pompano-Beach-Florida.html). The population is comprised of Black at 41.6%, followed by White (33.2%) and Hispanic (22.4%). The population is greatly impacted by the social determinants of health including financial distress; difficulty accessing social programs; provider discrimination; and transportation and language barriers. Research shows that social determinants of health can be more significant than lifestyle choices and can be a driver of diseases and risk vulnerability. Modernizations to the Pompano Care Center are necessary to accommodate the area’s growing patient population, to improve prenatal and pediatric care services and to ensure the facility has the capacity to provide adult primary care which will be a new service at the facility. Renovations will make the Pompano Care Center a cost efficient, one stop shop for comprehensive care services. All three floors of the building will be reconfigured and modernized t
o provide more controlled waiting areas on each floor with better circulation and to add and improve exam rooms. Restrooms will be renovated to comply with accessibility requirements und the Americans with Disabilities Act and local building codes. These improvements will result in a larger and better organized space, well suited to the services available to the patient population.
