Congressionally Directed Spending for Construction Projects - Banyan Health Systems is requesting $2.5 million to support the expansion of the Banyan Community Health Center Little Havana Campus. The objective of the project is to expand facilities so Banyan can meet the increased community need for low-cost healthcare services. Banyan Community Health Center Little Havana Campus is a HRSA designated Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that serves as a safety net for Little Havana’s medically underserved community by providing high quality, accessible integrated behavioral health services to anyone who needs healthcare, regardless of their immigration status, insurance coverage, or ability to pay. The current campus is comprised of a total 26,000 square feet spread across three buildings. These facilities house: 3,000 square feet of primary care, 12,000 square feet of crisis intervention services Centralized Receiving Facilyt/Crisis Stabilization Unit/Detox and 10,000 square feet of Children and Adult Therapy, Children and Adult Psychiatry, Case Management and Administrative offices. The future Little Havana Community Health Center will be comprised of an expanded, 50,000 square foot, state-of-the-art four or five story building. The new FQHC clinic will house all integrated health services in one building, streamlining patient care. This facility will provide pediatric primary care, women’s health, OB/GYN services, pharmacy, lab, dentistry, outpatient psychiatry, and additional community resources for over 20,000 patients per year. This space will include: 25,000+ square feet of primary care, 12,000 square feet of crisis intervention services: Centralize Receiving Facility/Crisis Stabilization Unit/Detox, 10,000 square feet of Children and Adult therapy, Children and Adult Psychiatry, and Case Management, 2,500 square foot space for dentistry, and 5,000 square feet for administrative offices. Further, expansion of Banyan’s Little Havana Campus will include the addition of dentistry, diagnostic mammography services, enhanced lab services lab, and imaging/x-ray. Banyan’s current facility serves approximately 14,500 patents annually and is beyond sustainable capacity. Expansion of this facility will significantly increase in the number of rooms available for consultations, exams and treatment for primary care and behavioral health. This will increase Banyan’s Little Havana patient capacity to more than 20,000 annually. Significantly reducing Miami-Dade County’s critical shortage of accessible, integrated care facilities. Beyond increasing patient capacity, the expansion will simultaneously support the Little Havana economy by reducing hospitalizations and creating new jobs. Banyan projects 75 new jobs will be created upon completion of this project. These positions will include primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, dentist, pharmacists, medical assistants, LCSW’s, assessors, administrative personnel, vendors, security, maintenance staff, and more.
