Tamarack Expansion Project - Anchorage Community Mental Health Services Inc dba Alaska Behavioral Health (AKBH) proposes the Tamarack Expansion Project, located at 1521 Hilton Avenue, Fairbanks, Alaska, to expand access to high-quality behavioral health residential treatment services in Interior Alaska. The project consists of the construction of a 5,709-square-foot addition to the existing Tamarack facility, along with a 1,216-square-foot covered patio, increasing capacity to meet local demand for structured behavioral health residential services. The expansion will add six private resident rooms with en-suite bathrooms, a commercial kitchen, dining and gathering spaces, administrative offices, laundry, and supporting mechanical systems to enhance operational capacity and resident quality of care. Using a design-build delivery model, the project emphasizes efficiency, cost certainty, and streamlined coordination. Construction will utilize energy-efficient, cold-climate appropriate systems, including insulated concrete form (ICF) foundations, high-performance building envelope technologies, and modern mechanical systems suited to subarctic conditions. The total estimated construction cost is approximately $3.06 million, including $120,000 in design services, with funding requested under HRSA CPF/CDS Construction to support eligible construction, site work, and fixed equipment costs. This project directly aligns with HRSA’s mission to improve access to quality healthcare infrastructure, particularly in underserved and rural communities, by expanding capacity for behavioral health services in Fairbanks and the surrounding region.
