Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction - The FY24 HRSA UMA Nursing Program and Cybersecurity construction project will provide funding for the completion of the renovation of 14 Marketplace Drive. This renovation includes complete construction of an existing space that wil house nursing simulation labs, cybersecurity range and training space, and offices to support faculty that teach in the space. Refurbishing the acquired leased space to create UMA‘s Capital Center for Nursing and Cybersecurity Simulation will support infrastructure upgrades to get the training and simulation program space up and running and allow UMA to reallocate existing capital lines to cover building lease costs). Simulation is an integral piece of the pedagogy in nursing education. Currently our program is housed at the back entrance of the Augusta Civic Center. In order to support our growing program, a newly defined dedicated space is essential. We do not have enough room to run simulations concurrently for different courses which makes the scheduling of courses challenging at best. A larger space and designed floor plan/sim space would allow more courses to run concurrently opening the option for when classes are offered for students. The Cyber Range is the gold standard for training in cybersecurity. Building on the current supported earmark, this grant would help to create a comprehensive training center to improve the accessibility to municipalities who are coming onto campus to get trained. Equipment included on the budget includes furniture and other supporting equipment to complete the space for occupancy and use as designated.
