Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction - The purpose of this project is to renovate the existing South Routt Medical Center facility. Located in rural, southern Routt County, the current building was designed to accommodate 2,800 patients a year. The current patient count of 9,000 patients annual exceeds the space capacity. At any given time there are only one to two other providers located in South Routt County, making South Routt Medical Center an essential facility for the region. This expansion will enable response to higher demand and increased access to high quality healthcare in an area designated as a Primary Care Health Professional Shortage Area and Medically Underserved Area. SRMC seeks to renovate and/or expand its health care facility and services in response to multiple issues impacting the region, including: The sharp rate of population growth in Routt County (41.3% growth expected by 2050), with South Routt experiencing a disproportionate share of this growth A dramatic increase (+300%) in SRMC’s patient numbers since 2014 The loss of property tax revenue due to the decline in coal extraction at the nearby Twenty Mile Coal Mine The expanding and changing health care needs of the community–such as an increased need for behavioral health services and growing senior population. The region’s current medical provider shortage Through a 1,500 square foot renovation, this project will add three exam rooms, additional office space, expanded patient check-in and lobby, and extra mechanical space. The increased space will allow for an additional 1.5 healthcare providers. The project also includes the addition of a whole-building HVAC cooling system, a back-up generator, and the paving of the current gravel parking lot. This project will support providing additional healthcare services, currently unavailable due to space constraints, including: Primary Care, Pediatrics Mental & Behavioral Health Women’s Health Vision Care X-Ray Additional Laboratory Tests Ultrasound Project milestones: Construction beginning in March 1, 2026 with a completion target of fall 2027. The beneficiaries of this project are the entire South Routt community, including the Towns of Oak Creek, Yampa, Phippsburg and Topanas.
