This project aligns with the objectives of the Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending (CPF/CDS) program by enhancing educational infrastructure and providing students with hands-on, real-life training experiences in radiologic technology. Project Scope: The renovation will involve extensive modifications to support modern radiology equipment, including: • Creation and Reconfiguration: Demolition of existing structural elements and reconfiguration of the space. • Installation of Equipment: A ceiling-mounted x-ray machine and a full-body phantom for comprehensive medical imaging training. • Electrical Upgrades: Enhancing the electrical system to 480V 3-phase, integrating safety and operational features. • Structural Modifications: Strengthening the ceiling to support overhead equipment. • Building Modifications: Installing new walls, doors, windows, ceiling, and HVAC systems to ensure safety and compliance with building codes. • Purchase of Movable Equipment: Acquisition of necessary medical and office equipment, including workstations, storage cabinets, and safety equipment. Benefits to Students: • Hands-On Experience: Students will gain direct, practical experience with radiology equipment, which is critical for developing their skills and confidence in performing diagnostic imaging procedures. • Enhanced Learning: The immersive environment of an energized lab allows students to apply classroom knowledge in a controlled, real-world setting, reinforcing their understanding of radiologic concepts and techniques. • Increased Competency: By working with advanced equipment and realistic training scenarios, students will be better prepared for clinical placements and future employment, ensuring they are competent and job-ready upon graduation. • Safety and Protocol Training: The lab will provide students with essential training in radiation safety protocols and emergency procedures, which are crucial for protecting both patients and healthcare workers. • Professional Readiness: Graduates will enter the workforce with a comprehensive skill set, making them more competitive in the job market and more valuable to potential employers. • Improved Career Opportunities: The practical experience gained in the energized radiology lab will open up a wider range of career opportunities for students, including positions in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings. Impact: The Energized Radiology Lab will significantly enhance the educational experience for KVCC students pursuing careers in radiologic technology. By providing hands-on, real-world training, the project will improve student readiness for clinical environments, benefiting local healthcare facilities and communities by producing highly skilled professionals. Additionally, the lab will offer substantial benefits to instructors by providing advanced teaching tools and enhancing the curriculum. The educational facility will gain increased enrollment, a stronger reputation, and compliance with accreditation standards, ultimately contributing to the healthcare sector by preparing well-trained radiologic technologists.
