Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction - South Peninsula Hospital (SPH) located in Homer, Alaska, within the Kenai Peninsula Borough, seeks a critical facility expansion to elevate health care support for the communities of the southern Kenai Peninsula. The hospital serves both local residents and remote communities, many of which are not located on a road system. Additionally, the City of Homer and the surrounding areas experience a surge in tourism during the summer months, attracting tens of thousands of visitors. The hospital’s current emergency power plant, which was built in the early 1980s, requires comprehensive renovation and relocation. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has identified code compliance issues related to facility’s aging components. In addition to the emergency power needs, the hospital’s boiler plant and hydronic heating system need replacement and modernization. This project aims to consolidate emergency power and operational plant mechanisms into a single location, ensuring reliable service for the entire southern Kenai Peninsula, including tourists requiring acute and chronic medical care.
