Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction - PROJECT ABSTRACT Project: North Alabama EMS/Ambulance Project Applicant: The Health Care Authority of the City of Huntsville/DBA Huntsville Hospital Health System Address: 101 Sivley Road, Huntsville, AL 35801-4421 Project Director: Jon Howell, President of HH Health System Emergency Medical Services Website: www.hh.health Huntsville Hospital Health System (HH Health) is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health systems. HH Health provides residents of northern Alabama and southern Tennessee with advanced health care services delivered through a cooperative, community-based hospital network. HH Health currently includes 15 affiliate safety-net hospitals across 10 counties. Through its rural and urban hospitals, HH Health provides access to healthcare for a population of 1.3 million. A HH Health priority is to establish a uniform, system-wide ambulance and transport service to significantly improve emergency services and transportation throughout the region. Specifically, HH Health System seeks to standardize their emergency vehicle fleet through the purchase of 10 uniform ambulances using FY24 CPF/CDS funds. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) systems are highly fragmented across North Alabama, and there is currently no standardization of ambulance trucks serviced by HH Health System. Different brands and boxes (some heavy-duty, medium, and light) cause inefficiencies in maintenance and parts, a challenge further exacerbated by supply-chain issues. Differing types of ambulances means operations face different dispatch systems, software, radio/cell communication, and medical equipment. Standardizing EMS vehicles through this project will enable HH Health System to better coordinate care across multiple jurisdictions and hospitals. The North Alabama EMS/Ambulance Project will be led by Mr. Jon Howell, President of HH Health System EMS. The total cost of the equipment is $2,568,769.50. Huntsville Hospital Health System will cover remaining costs above the $2,500,000.00 CPF/CDS funding requested for the vehicles. The standardization of the EMS system is a logical and impactful step to better serve the growing region, as investment in EMS vehicles will enable a more responsive and efficient emergency transport system for North Alabama – literally saving lives.
