Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction - Health Department offers Public Health and Nursing services to the following: Netcong, Mount Arlington, Mine Hill and Wharton in addition to Animal Control for Mine Hill and Senior Transportation to Washington Township, servicing a total of 66,000 residents, with the goal of further expanding our services and becoming a Regional Public Health Care Provider. Our Public Health, Nursing, Animal Control and Senior Transportation contracts generate approximately $385,000 in gross revenue, reducing both the tax burden of Mount Olive Township and recipient municipalities taxpayers. The Mount Olive Health Township Health Department is staffed by a full-time Health Officer, Deputy Health Officer, Animal Control Officer, four (4) Registered Environmental Health Specialists, Transportation Coordinator, Public Health Nurse, Registrar, and Deputy Registrar. They also employee a part-time Health Educator, and several part-time Animal Control Officers, Public Health Nurses and Transportation Drivers. The Health Department focuses on Environmental regulations, Health Education, Vital Statistics, Public Health Nursing, Animal Control and Senior Transportation. In 2019, the Mount Olive Township Health Department, along with community stakeholders, produced a Community Health Assessment (see attached) to better understand the health needs of our community. Through the assessment, key health needs were identified through systematic, comprehensive data collection and analysis. The top health concerns identified from quantitative and qualitative data collection methods were as follows: • Access to transportation • Sidewalk safety • Mental Health • Access to information and resources • Community engagement • Substance abuse To address the top health concerns of our community, the Township would like to undertake the proposed “Health and Wellness Center Expansion” project. This project would enable our Health Department to provide the services needed and expand its resources. Project Description: Situated at the Municipal Complex is the Senior Center (see picture below) which provides the senior community a place to gather. In addition, the Morris County Nutrition Program is operated out of this facility three (3) times a week and provides meals to thousands of residents a year. Currently, the Health Department is located across the parking lot from the Senior Center inside of the Municipal Building. The “Health and Wellness Center Expansion” project would consist of renovating the current Senior Center, doubling its size, and relocating the Health Department to the new location (see conceptual rendering and floorplan below). This would provide the Health Department with more square footage and an updated facility to provide additional health services to both Mount Olive Township and our shared services communities. The project would also allow our Health Department to continue to grow and offer our services to more surrounding municipalities.
