BJCBH provides and coordinates behavioral health services for adults with serious mental illness and children who are seriously emotionally disturbed in the central and southern sections of St. Louis City and in St. Louis, St. Francois, Iron and Washington Counties. BJCBH serves as a point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by the Missouri Department of Mental Health. BJCBH also provides and coordinates behavioral health services and programs for select populations. Specialized services include deaf services, vocational assessment and counseling, jail diversion programs, engagement and treatment of the homeless population and treatment for children and youth in the social welfare system. BJCBH operates several programs including residential, clubhouse, substance use and integrated co-occurring dual diagnosis treatment and contracts with area school districts to provide mental health and counseling support for students. BJCBH provides population management for people with serious mental illness and comorbid physical illness managed by primary care physicians and nurses in the community through Healthcare Homes. This approach supports improvement of an individual’s overall health, improving quality of life, reducing mortality, and reducing costs to the health system. In addition, BJCBH offers 24-hour mental health crisis services providing virtual/telephonic crisis intervention services and mobile community crisis assessments. It was developed in partnership with area providers to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive region-wide response to mental health crises. Under their current model, BJC Behavioral Health’s sites are running at capacity, which is limiting the organization’s ability to meet the community’s growing behavioral health needs. Capacity constraints are impacting additional program development, growth, and availability of services. Meeting the need:?To meet the need for?increased?behavioral health services in the St. Louis community, BJC Behavioral Health proposes to expand services with a new location. BJCBH is proposing to utilize the $4,500,000 HRSA CDS grant to facilitate construction of a new centrally located behavioral health clinic. The new clinic will allow for better access, increased capacity, program development and enhanced safety for staff and clients. The total proposed construction budget is $7,576,258. BJC HealthCare will allocate institutional operational funds to support related BJC Behavioral Health project costs that exceed the HRSA CDS grant award.
