Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction - As the shortage of nursing and support personnel in healthcare facilities (hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, nursing assistants, Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, etc.) persists, the University has recognized the need and duty to expand its simulation offerings and enter the workforce development training arena. This effort will be realized through the development of a Healthcare Simulation Laboratory in Blair County, Pennsylvania. The purpose of this proposal is to equip this laboratory (moveable equipment only) with state-of-the-art equipment, including Anatomage Tables; life-sized high-fidelity manikins, monitoring equipment, hospital beds, task and skills trainers, EKG machines, phlebotomy training equipment, etc. to train Patient Care Technicians adequately and appropriately, and prepare them for certification and employment. This equipment and training will provide students and professionals with the opportunities to practice and respond to a variety of clinical situations, interventions, and pharmacological agents. Students will develop their clinical decision-making abilities and improve their confidence to manage similar real-life scenarios in a safe, non-threatening and competent manner without the risk to patients.
