Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction - This application addresses two Roper St. Francis Healthcare projects for Roper Hospital, its 332-bed flagship acute care facility. Roper Hospital Oncology Modernization will modernize the existing Roper Hospital Radiation Therapy department to include the placement of a new linear accelerator in a renovated space (Grant funding: $5,217,073). New Roper Concept Design is a design-only project to develop the Concept phase for replacing Roper Hospital, which is relocating to North Charleston (Grant funding: $1,257,927). Total requested CDS Funding for the two projects is $6,475,000. Project 1: Roper Hospital Oncology Modernization Project Address: 316 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401 Project Director: Kenneth Hill, Director, Construction & Safety Contact Phone Number: 843-276-3104 Email Address: Kenneth.Hill@rsfh.com Website Address: www.rsfh.com/roper Project Grant Funding Request: $5,217,073 Roper Hospital is a leading provider of adult cancer services in the Charleston tri-county area (US Census Population: 830,529). More than half of all patients receiving cancer care require radiation therapy treatment. In 2022, RSFH facilities combined provided 1,089 radiation therapy consults and 18,550 billable treatment sessions. Over the past two years, the demand for radiation treatment across our three hospital facilities with radiation therapy departments has grown by nearly 200 new patients. In order to meet the demand of services and provide more comprehensive and patient-centered radiation treatments, Roper Hospital will use grant funds to modernize its current Radiation Therapy department and purchase a new linear accelerator. The project is projected to cost $5,217,073 and take a total of 34 weeks. Project 2: New Roper Hospital Concept Design Address: 2600 Lacross Road, North Charleston, SC 29406 Project Director: Charles Fletcher, VP, Construction, Real Estate & Support Services Contact Phone Number: 843-606-8319 Email Address: Charles.Fletcher@rsfh.com Website Address: www.rsfh.com/roper Project Grant Funding Request: $1,257,927 The mission of Roper St. Francis Healthcare is healing all people with compassion, faith and excellence. With almost 6,000 teammates, RSFH is the Lowcountry’s second-largest private employer and has nearly 1,000 employed or affiliated doctors representing almost every medical specialty. The 657-bed, 4 hospital system consists of more than 100 facilities and services across three counties. Located on Charleston’s historic peninsula, Roper Hospital has been an essential provider of healthcare for the Lowcountry region since 1856. This flagship facility has grown with the community, changing location several times over 157 years before ending up at its current address at 316 Calhoun Street in 1946. In the intervening 75 years, its downtown location has become land-locked and increasingly flood prone and the primary service area population has grown to more than 830,000 residents across three counties. With the center of Charleston no longer the peninsula city, Roper Hospital is relocating to North Charleston to better serve the Lowcountry community by becoming more easily accessible and centrally located while also upgrading facilities to 21st century standards. New Roper Hospital will relocate 332 beds from the existing facility on Calhoun Street to a newly acquired 26.66-acre site in North Charleston at the corner of Lacross Road and Mall Drive. New Roper will be a Level II trauma center anchored by core clinical services to include oncology, cardiology and emergency services. Roper St. Francis Healthcare will utilize federally appropriated funds designated for facilities and equipment for the Concept Design Phase of New Roper Hospital at its new location. The scope of the project will include producing a Concept Phase packet costing $1,257,927 in CDS funding and will take an estimated 20 weeks to complete.
