Its flagship hospital, Morristown Medical Center, has been regionally-ranked as the top hospital in New Jersey (U.S. News & World Report, U.S. News Best Hospitals 2022–23), as a general medical and surgical facility that is the largest provider of inpatient care in the state. It is nationally-ranked in three adult specialties; as such, it excels in caring for the sickest, most medically-complex patients. It is easily-accessed via an array of transportation in the tri-state region. A verified Regional Trauma Center, Morristown Medical Center treats the most severely injured patients, via a rooftop helipad that enables 838 annual Life Flights, connected to an aging Emergency Department. While this Emergency Department is a lifeline to countless families throughout the region, it has not updated in over a decade. Advances in technology have warranted upgrades, in order to bring the best of the 21st Century emergency care to those Atlantic Health serves. Funds will support renovation of approximately 8,000 square feet of Emergency Department space, resulting in a new Behavioral Health Crisis Unit, Adult Medical Treatment Zone, and Low Acuity Zone, with supporting features. This construction project is Phase 4 of a five-phase Emergency Department Modernization and Expansion Project, construction of which began in February 2022 and is slated to conclude in December 2024. Morristown Medical Center staff delivered life-saving care to 1,777 trauma patients in 2022, while their Emergency Department treated 104,800 total patients. Facility enhancements will improve health outcomes and achieve health equity through access to quality services, a skilled health workforce equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and innovative, high-value programs. Phase 4 construction is anticipated to begin in November 2023 and conclude in June 2024.
