Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction - CARES CENTER PSYCHIATRIC RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITY MODERNIZATION PROJECT PROJECT ABSTRACT Canopy Children’s Solutions’ (Canopy) mission is to help children thrive and families overcome extraordinary challenges by providing a continuum of behavioral health, educational and social service solutions. For more than 110 years, Canopy has provided life-changing, upstream solutions for Mississippi children and families to reach their full potential. We believe every child can be a success story with a solid foundation for strong brain development and access to exceptional and individualized therapeutic healthcare. This project will provide funding for facility renovations and moveable equipment for Canopy’s CARES Center located in Jackson, MS. Canopy’s CARES Center is a 60-bed psychiatric residential treatment facility (PRTF) for children and adolescents ages 6 to 17 with severe emotional and/or behavioral challenges. This project will renovate 3,650 square feet of an existing total 10,815 square foot building that houses residential units of its 60-bed facility. The space will be reconfigured to provide 7 single bedrooms that will allow the CARES Center to admit children whose high acuity requires single occupancy bedrooms for admission. The renovated space, referred to as the North Wing of CARES Center’s Powers Campus, will also include 4 bathrooms, 4 quiet rooms, 2 open group areas, 2 offices, a mechanical room, a medical exam room as well as storage, housekeeping and supply rooms. This project will also provide furnishings for buildings located in other buildings on the CARES Center campus. Canopy’s extensive network includes 18 locations strategically located throughout the state allowing the organization to serve children in all 82 Mississippi counties. This includes a multi-dimensional continuum of care accredited by The Joint Commission, certified by the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS), schools accredited by the Mississippi Department of Education, certified by the Mississippi Department of Health and certified by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health. For more than a century, Canopy has endeavored to deliver care of the highest quality. Therefore, we have been, and continue to be, at the forefront of emerging best practices and state-of-the-art service delivery. As stewards of a century of progress, we work very hard at meeting the needs of the current generation of Mississippians. As the need for care continues to outpace the availability of affordable care for many Mississippi families; Canopy remains committed to delivering innovative solutions to all children and youth statewide that need behavioral, educational and mental health solutions. Through the funding of this request, Canopy will be better able to serve those in need and provide an environment where they receive the best care possible.
