Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction - Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) proposes to purchase a compact mobile unit to complement its existing fleet of two 40-foot mobile health units. The compact unit will serve a 20-county area in Southeast Ohio, expanding access to health screenings and care. The Southeast Ohio counties served will be Athens, Coshocton, Fairfield, Gallia, Guernsey, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, Pickaway, Pike, Ross, Scioto, Vinton, and Washington. Operated by OU-HCOM’s Community Health Programs, the compact mobile health unit will serve adult and child populations across Southeast Ohio by providing health screening and education clinics, immunizations, childhood hearing and vision screenings, as well as increasing capacity for primary care and women’s health clinics. The compact mobile unit will not require a commercial driver’s license to operate and will be able to travel to rural locations that cannot accommodate the current fleet of mobile health units. Community Health Programs was founded in 1994 as the community outreach arm of Ohio University’s College of Medicine. With a mobile health unit, the staff and volunteers set out to provide childhood vaccinations across Southeast Ohio. Nearly 30 years later, the Community Health Programs Heritage Community Clinic is a free and charitable clinic which provides a wide portfolio of healthcare services to a 24-county region. Services are provided to uninsured and underinsured individuals by a dedicated team of clinical professionals, volunteer providers, medical students, and health professions students.
