The LSU Health Sciences Center - New Orleans School of Dentistry (SOD) proposes to modernize 50 dental workstations within the student clinics that serve the underserved in a Dental Health Care Shortage Area. The SOD’s student practice provides dental care for the uninsured poor, the elderly and the young at significantly reduced rates of approximately 25% to 33% of private practice rates. The SOD also provides valuable outreach programs to educate children and adults about the importance of proper oral health. In the past three years, the SOD student practice has provided dental care to an average of 13,000 patients per year, consisting of an average total 45,000 patient visits per year. This project will update a cluster of 50 workstation with new chairs and replace the millwork with new casework configured to accommodate the dimensions of the replacement equipment and current workflows.
