The LSU Health Shreveport Center for Medical Education and Emerging Viral Threats building is a transformative project that will provide the unique opportunity for LSU Health Shreveport to advance its national and international viral pathogenesis and public health research, while also training the next generation of medical doctors and scientists to serve the citizens of Louisiana and the nation. Creation of the Center for Emerging Viral Threats (CEVT) research labs will encompass biological safety level 3 and 2 laboratories coupled with a complex molecular CLIA/CAP certified testing laboratory enabling both advanced research on viral pathogens and molecular testing for different viruses serving public health needs. In addition, the CEVT research facility contains specialized education capabilities to train individuals (students, physicians, and scientists) in proper and advanced safety environments needed to perform highly sensitive research. The building is also designed to provide state of the art facilities for medical education including advanced simulation training, advanced computing and digital class rooms, along with small team group instructional opportunities. This modern, state of the art facility will enable LSU Health Shreveport and the state of Louisiana to attract top-notch students, trainees, and faculty from across the nation and world while providing advanced medical and research opportunities and services for the region.
