This project will provide 14 to 28 days of intensive treatment for men following inpatient detoxification, and preceding longer-term residential recovery. Addiction counselors and recovery specialists will support male patients in this program, connecting them to Dimock’s medical services to engage in Medication Assisted Treatment, primary care, behavioral health, and specialty services. This initiative seeks to provide 300 men with these services annually. Needs to be Addressed: Since COVID-19 first started impacting daily life, overdose deaths rose across the country due to “economic shock; social isolation; increased mental health distress; and disrupted access to addiction support and medications.” According to preliminary data released by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, in the first nine months of 2020, there were 1,517 confirmed and estimated opioid-related overdose deaths, an estimated 33 more deaths than in the first nine months of 2019. Consequently, access to substance use disorder (“SUD”) programming is critical. Population to be Served: Male SUD patients from Dimock’s service area, as well as third-party referral sites (which may be outside of Dimock’s primary and secondary service areas).
