Hill Hospital serve as one of the largest economic anchors in Sumter County. It provides both direct employment opportunities and indirect reinforcement of the local economy through the purchase of goods and services from other private sector entities. The availability of local access to health care is an important factor for businesses considering whether to invest or locate in a particular area. For several years, Hill Hospital has faced many struggles to address the persistent challenges of providing health care in Sumter County. Low patient volumes and geographic isolation, economic fluctuations, increased regulatory burden, and the COVID 19 pandemic, has magnified these challenges. While Hill Hospital continue to serve the county, we must modify our service offerings, in order to stay viable and protect health care access for their communities. Having the ability to offer our community access to care in area conducive for lengthy in-patient stay with the ability to take a shower, will prevent residents from traveling to other counties
and states to seek health care. When residents can enjoy care close to home, the economy will grow because dollars are spent locally. The project is anticipated to begin within 30 days of award and completed and occupied by June 2023.
