NSCC opened its doors in 1965 and for 55 years has provided higher education to many underserved residents in Essex County, MA. With two campuses: Danvers and Lynn, the College serves more than 30 communities in a mix of urban and suburban settings, is home to an array of ethnic and racial groups, middle and low-income residents, and a growing number of immigrants. The City of Lynn, a gateway/high needs city of 101,253, is home to NSCC’s most populated campus and will be the site for the construction project described in this proposal. NSCC’s construction project, a renovation of an Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) lab, LE 301, will take place at 300 Broad Street, Lynn, Massachusetts, 01901 in the McGee Building, the college’s main campus building. The construction project focuses on the significant need to redesign and renovate a critical science lab used by Allied Health students. The lab renovation will serve students training for the following professions and academic tracks: LPN, RN, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Radiation Technology, Surgical Technology, Healthcare Technology, and Medical Assisting Certificate and Associate degree programs. Project Objective: The project will upgrade lab space for students and provide new and updated lab equipment and furnishings for Allied Health and STEM students, the majori
ty of who are first-generation and under-represented in higher education and STEM fields in general. The project will facilitate collaborative learning, flexible classroom layout, new storage space and teaching aids. The overall objective is to ensure access to modernized lab space to achieve equity and access for NSCC’s diverse student body to support academic and career success while meeting regional workforce needs. Project Plan: Planning for the renovation project began in 2021. Construction is expected to be completed in August 2023.
