CONSUMER ASSISTANCE/OMBUDSMAN GRANT ??? PROJECT ABSTRACT The Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation (OFIR) intends to use the funds acquired through this grant to expand and improve our consumer assistance efforts to Michigan consumers facing health insurance related issues. Over the next 12 months, OFIR will use the $900,000 through this grant to increase consumer???s awareness of OFIR???s services and provide expanded consumer assistance services to Michigan consumers with health insurance related issues. OFIR will leverage the funds provided through this grant in four primary areas: Staffing ??? OFIR will hire additional staff to assist in implementing and orchestrating an efficient and effective expansion of current consumer assistance activities to reach underserved populations in our state and expansion of our appeals services. Training ??? OFIR will seek training for staff that will improve staff???s knowledge of the health care reforms, use of data collection and
